Scripture Reading
Romans 8:14–17
14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[a] And by him we cry, “Abba,[b] Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
1 John 5:11–12
11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
Reflection
One of the deepest struggles we face is the question of identity.
The world is always offering us labels based on our success, our failures, our relationships, our appearance, our work, or what other people think about us. Those identities are fragile because they can change overnight.
The gospel gives us something much more secure.
If you belong to Christ, you have been adopted into God’s family. You are not defined by your worst failure, your greatest achievement, or someone else’s opinion of you. You are beloved by God.
That does not mean our emotions will always agree. There will be mornings when we feel inadequate, afraid, tired, or uncertain. In those moments, we learn to place what is true above what we feel.
We remind ourselves: I belong to Jesus. I am loved by the Father. His Spirit lives in me. My life is secure in Him.
That assurance gives us strength to face the world without needing the world to tell us who we are.
Reflection Questions
What labels or opinions have I allowed to define me?
When do I most struggle to believe that I am deeply loved by God?
Is my identity currently rooted more in what I do or in who I belong to?
What truth about my identity in Christ do I need to repeat today?
Prayer
Father, thank You that my identity is secure in You. When I feel inadequate, rejected, afraid, or uncertain, remind me that I am Your child. Help me stop allowing the world or other people to determine my worth. Holy Spirit, teach my heart to believe what Your Word says is true: I belong to Jesus, I am deeply loved, and my life is held securely in You. Amen.
