21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.
1 John 3:16–18
16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
Reflection
John ends this section not with a suggestion, but with a command. Those who love God must also love one another.
That love begins in the church family, but it does not stop at the church doors. Every person we encounter bears the image of God, even those who disagree with us, frustrate us, or live differently from us.
Christian love cannot remain in words alone. It becomes visible through action: drawing near, carrying burdens, serving quietly, showing mercy, and treating people with dignity.

Have I used spiritual language as a substitute for practical compassion?
Where am I creating distance rather than building a bridge?
What specific act of love can I offer before this week ends?
Prayer
Holy Spirit, let the love of God become visible through me. Help me move beyond kind words into practical obedience. Open my eyes to the people around me and give me compassion, courage, and humility to love them well. May my life reflect the heart of Jesus both inside and outside the church. Amen.
