Reflection
The world teaches us to recognize victory through power, success, influence, and control. Jesus turns that definition upside down.
In God’s Kingdom, victory looks like the cross.
It looks like serving instead of demanding to be served, forgiving instead of retaliating, choosing humility over pride, and loving people even when that love is costly.
John says that everyone born of God overcomes the world. That does not mean believers avoid hardship or always get the outcome they want. It means they learn to live by a different set of values, refusing to let the patterns of the world determine how they respond.
To overcome the world is to choose the way of Jesus when pride, fear, greed, anger, or control offer an easier alternative.
True victory is not gaining more power. It is becoming more like Christ.
Reflection Questions
Is there something God has already asked me to do that I have been avoiding?
What usually keeps me from obedience—fear, comfort, pride, or control?
Do I believe God’s commands are for my good?
What simple act of obedience could I take today?
Prayer
Father, teach me to trust You enough to obey You. Forgive me for the times I have resisted Your direction because I was afraid or wanted to remain in control. Holy Spirit, show me the next faithful step and give me the courage to take it. May my obedience become an expression of my love for You. Amen.
