Scripture Reading

1 John 2:17
17
The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

Matthew 6:19–21
19
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Reflection

Everything this world offers is temporary. Success fades. Possessions wear out. Recognition disappears. The applause of people never truly satisfies.

John lifts our eyes beyond the temporary and reminds us that only one life endures forever—a life rooted in Christ, grounded in the Father's love, and committed to His will.

As you finish this week's exercise, ask yourself what you are building your life upon.

Reflection Questions

  • Am I investing more energy into things that will fade or things that will last?

  • Am I trying harder to appear successful than to be faithful?

  • What burden of image, performance, or approval do I need to lay down?

  • What is one area where God is inviting me to trust Him more fully?

Prayer

Father, help me hold this world loosely and hold onto You tightly. Keep me from building my identity on things that are temporary. Teach me to find my security in Your love, my purpose in Your will, and my hope in Your promises. Thank You that my future is secure in Christ. Amen.

Weekly Challenge

At the end of this week, spend 15 minutes in silence with God and ask:

"Lord, what has been competing for my affection?"

Write down whatever He reveals, and surrender it to Him in prayer. Then ask:

"What would it look like to love You with my whole heart again?"
