Galatians 5:16–17 & Romans 7:21–25 - John describes the "lust of the flesh" as desires that have become ruling desires. God created us with good desires, but when those desires take God's place, they begin to control us.
1 John 2:12–14 - John's warning is not about rejecting God's creation or withdrawing from people. It is about recognizing the subtle pull of a world system that constantly competes for our affection.
