Scripture Reading
1 John 2:19
19 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.
Psalm 118:8
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in humans.
Reflection
One of the most painful realities John addresses is watching people walk away from the faith. Church hurt, disappointment, betrayal, and broken relationships can shake us deeply.
But John reminds believers that our faith must ultimately rest in Christ—not in pastors, leaders, churches, or people.
People will fail us. Jesus never will.
When our confidence is rooted in Christ, we can weather disappointments without abandoning our faith.
Reflection Questions
Have I placed unrealistic expectations on people?
Is there any hurt, disappointment, or betrayal that has affected my relationship with God?
Am I trusting Jesus, or am I depending on people to provide what only He can give?
How can I strengthen my confidence in Christ this week?
Prayer
Jesus, thank You that You are faithful even when people fail. Heal any wounds that have caused me to struggle with trust. Help me place my confidence fully in You and not in human leaders, relationships, or circumstances. You alone are my firm foundation. Amen.
