Wk 8 Day 5: Stay Close to Jesus

6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit[a] of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

John 10:27–28
27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.

Your word is a lamp for my feet,
    a light on my path.

Reflection

John concludes by reminding believers that those who know God listen to the apostolic witness preserved in Scripture. The safest place for a follower of Jesus is to remain close to Christ through His Word, His Spirit, and the fellowship of His Church.

Discernment grows through daily relationship with Jesus, not merely through accumulating information.

• What step can I take this week to deepen my relationship with Christ?

Prayer

Jesus, thank You for being the Good Shepherd. Help me recognize Your voice above every competing voice in this world. Keep me close to You, rooted in Your Word, sensitive to Your Spirit, and faithful to Your truth. Lead me each day in the path of life. Amen.

Wk 8 Day 4: Speaking Like Jesus

5 They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit[a] of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

Ephesians 4:29
29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Colossians 4:6
6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

Reflection

John explains that people eventually reveal what shapes their hearts by what comes out of their mouths. Those shaped by the world speak from the world's perspective, while those shaped by Christ increasingly reflect His character.

Our speech reveals our source of influence.

Today, ask God to transform not only your words but also the heart from which they flow.

• Do my conversations reflect the love and truth of Jesus?

• What habits of speech need to change?

• Are people encouraged after spending time with me?

• Does my life point others toward Christ?

Prayer

Father, let my words reflect Your heart. Help me speak with kindness, wisdom, humility, and truth. May my conversations reveal that I belong to Jesus and become opportunities to encourage others and glorify You. Amen.

Wk 8 Day 3: Greater Is He

4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

    and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,

Romans 8:31–39
31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:

“For your sake we face death all day long;
    we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”[a]

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[b] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Reflection

One of the most encouraging promises in this passage is that believers do not have to fear deception because "the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world." Our confidence is never in our intelligence or spiritual maturity—it is in Christ living within us through His Spirit.

Victory comes when we stop trusting ourselves and begin relying on Jesus.

• What fears have been distracting me from trusting Christ?

• How have I seen God's faithfulness in difficult situations?

• What would it look like to trust Jesus more completely today?

Prayer

Lord, thank You that You are greater than every fear, temptation, and lie. Teach me to depend on You instead of my own strength. Fill me with confidence, knowing that Your Spirit lives within me and will guide me into truth. Amen.
