Wk 11 Day 5: Let God's Love Overflow

Philippians 2:12–13
12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

1 John 4:16
16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.

Reflection

John's teaching about God's love is never meant to stop with personal assurance. God's love transforms us so that it begins flowing into every area of our lives.

Paul reminds us that we "work out" our salvation because God is already at work within us. We are not trying to become people God can love. We are becoming people who increasingly reflect the love we have already received.

The Christian life is not driven by fear but by gratitude.

Today, ask God to make His love visible through you.

• How has God's love changed me?

• Who needs to experience God's love through me this week?

• Am I depending on the Holy Spirit to transform me?

• What is one practical act of love I can offer someone today?

Prayer

Father, thank You for working within me every day. Let the love You have poured into my heart overflow into my family, my friendships, my workplace, and my community. May my life reflect the love of Christ so clearly that others catch a glimpse of You through me. Amen.

Wk 11 Day 4: As He Is, So Are We

1 John 4:17
17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus.

Ephesians 2:4–10
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Reflection

One of the most remarkable truths in this passage is that our standing before God is determined by our union with Christ.

Jesus stands before the Father with perfect righteousness, complete acceptance, and unbroken fellowship. John tells us that because we belong to Christ, we share in that standing—not because of what we have done, but because of what He has done.

This doesn't lead us toward pride. It leads us toward gratitude, humility, and joyful obedience.

• Am I defining myself by my failures or by my identity in Christ?

• How does being united with Christ change the way I see myself?

• Do I believe God truly accepts me because of Jesus?

• How should this confidence change the way I live today?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for giving me a new identity through Jesus Christ. Help me stop living as though I must earn what You have already freely given. May my confidence rest in Christ alone and may that confidence produce humility, worship, and faithful obedience. Amen.

Wk 11 Day 3: Perfect Love Drives Out Fear

1 John 4:18
18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

Romans 8:1
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,

Reflection

John is not saying that Christians will never experience fear. He is speaking specifically about the fear of condemnation and punishment.

Many believers continue to carry guilt long after Christ has already paid for their sin. They live as though God is waiting to reject them instead of remembering that Jesus has already borne their punishment.

The more deeply we understand God's love, the less room fear has to remain.

Perfect love doesn't ignore sin—it overcomes its consequences through the cross.

• What fears continue to shape my relationship with God?

• Do I still carry guilt that Jesus has already forgiven?

• Am I living as though I must earn God's acceptance?

• What would it look like to live free from condemnation?

Prayer

Father, thank You that Your perfect love drives out fear. Help me stop carrying burdens that Jesus has already carried for me. Teach me to live in the freedom, forgiveness, and peace You have provided through Christ. Amen.

Wk 11 Day 2: Confidence Instead of Fear

1 John 4:17
17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus.

Romans 8:38–39
38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Reflection

Most people associate the thought of standing before God with fear. John says believers can face that day with confidence.

That confidence isn't rooted in how well we've lived or how much we've accomplished. It rests entirely on what Jesus has already done for us.

Because Christ took our judgment upon Himself, we no longer have to wonder if we've done enough. We can live with the settled assurance that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.

• When I think about standing before God, what emotions do I feel?

• Do I trust more in my performance or in Christ's finished work?

• What does it mean to have confidence because of Jesus?

• How would my daily life change if I truly believed I was fully accepted by God?

Prayer

Jesus, thank You for taking my place. Thank You that my standing before the Father depends on Your righteousness and not my own. Replace my fear with confidence and help me live each day secure in Your finished work. Amen.

Wk 11 Day 1: Know and Rely on God's Love

Scripture Reading

1 John 4:16
16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.

Romans 5:8
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Reflection

John doesn't simply say that we should know God's love intellectually. He says we are to know and rely on it. There is a difference between believing God loves you and learning to rest in that love.

Many of us base God's love on our circumstances. When life is going well, we assume God is near. When life is difficult, we wonder if He has forgotten us. But God's love is not measured by changing circumstances. It was settled once and for all at the cross.

Today, ask yourself whether your confidence rests in God's unchanging character or in the changing events of your life.

• Do I truly believe God loves me, even when life is difficult?

• What circumstances tend to make me question His love?

• Am I relying on God's promises or on my emotions?

• How does the cross reassure me that God loves me?

Prayer

Father, thank You that Your love is not dependent on my circumstances or my performance. Help me move beyond simply knowing about Your love to relying on it every day. Teach me to rest in the confidence that You have already demonstrated Your love through Jesus Christ. Amen.
